“It is necessary to create an anti-war movement”

February 18, 2023

The international conference “Security and Civil Society 2023” was held on February 3-5 in Narva, Estonia. Politicians, experts, and civil society representatives from 27 countries gathered to seek possible solutions to stabilize European security and support the UN’s achievements in the areas of the green revolution, security, and digital cooperation. They produced a declaration on “Peace and Cooperation,” calling for consolidating the forces of all countries.

Panel discussions included the future of Ukraine in Europe as a free, democratic sovereign state, implementing a more conscious Nordic and Baltic security policy for NATO membership, Climate Change, the energy crisis, and much more.

One of the speakers at the discussion on the future of Moldova was Ecaterina Cojuhari, Managing Director of the company “AxisMundi.Switzerland”. Having worked in journalism for about 20 years, and even though she has been living abroad for a long time, she knows the internal and geopolitical situation of the Republic quite well. In her presentation, “Will Moldova Become the Next Front in the War in Ukraine,” she told the participants of the conference how the political discourse regarding Moldova’s neutral status has changed since the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine.

The speaker is convinced that neutral status remains the only way to keep Moldova out of the war. However, for Moldova’s neutrality to be taken into account by the great powers and for it to become firmly established in the minds of the population, it is necessary to seek its internal and international recognition within the UN and other international platforms. This is possible, especially if the experience of Switzerland during the First and Second World Wars were considered. The Confederation managed to maintain its neutrality, surrounded by warring countries.

According to the expert on neutrality – Ecaterina Cojuhari, Moldova does not need APCs and armaments but a different defense. Like in Switzerland during World War II, an “Intellectual National Defense” or Spiritual Defense should be created. “It is so strange that with the outbreak of war in Ukraine, in Europe and the world, the idea of a peace movement did not arise, as it was in the United States during the Vietnam War with the hippies. Therefore, it is necessary to create an anti-war movement to unite people who will stand up for the non-involvement of countries in this war, the reasoning of people and pressure on politicians to start peace negotiations as soon as possible to stop the endless death and destruction in Ukraine”, – believes the head of “AxisMundi.Switzerland”.
